Dedicated to the Horses (in Kelly’s words)….
“The horses inspire me every day – I feel very lucky to be able to work with them. They are amazing animals and give so much of themselves to us; it makes it easy to fully dedicate myself to them.
To help each horse achieve their personal best, whatever that may be, we as riders need to try to understand them mentally and physically. Much like people, every horse is an individual and learns in their own way. Training programs should be designed to suit the individual horse. The work I do with each horse has a reason behind it and a goal in mind. I try to have a positive impact on them and keep them happy in their day-to-day work while advancing them and asking them to achieve their maximum potential. They should learn to think for themselves and be confident and comfortable in their own skin.
What the horse does on a daily basis not only in work but in their environment is key to their success. I feel a happy horse is more likely to give you their all. I strive every day to be a better horsewoman, to know my horses not only as their rider but on the ground and in the barn, knowing every inch of them. I enjoy having that personal relationship and trust in each other.
Over the last several years I have been able to work with some of the best horsemen and women in the world. I feel very fortunate to have been part of these amazing riders’ programs that incorporate every aspect of the horse’s well being and progress. I’ve learned and believe that a horse’s health and success come from managing their individual training, shoeing, vets, physical therapists, feeding, and conditioning schedules. Through these experiences I have developed my philosophy for working with horses; teaching them, not telling them, showing them, not forcing them – letting them learn.”
